George Mason University has just announced that Melissa J. Perry, ScD, MHS, has been selected as the next Dean of the George Mason College of Health and Human Services. Dr. Perry has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health since 2011.
“Over the years, Dr. Perry has become an invaluable member of our community as a leader, researcher and trusted advisor for our students,” said Lynn R. Goldman, the Michael and Lori Milken Dean of Milken Institute SPH. “I look forward to working with Dr. Perry as a colleague and Dean in the near future. Please join me in offering warm congratulations to Dr. Perry.”
Dr. Perry also had appointments in the Department of Epidemiology at Milken Institute SPH and in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Before coming to GW, Dr. Perry spent 13 years as a faculty member at the Harvard School of Public Health and before that she served at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Dr. Perry’s research has drawn international attention to the health effects of pesticide exposure, including a recent study showing human exposure to a pesticide linked to cancer and other health problems. She has also investigated how climate change affects the properties of pesticides and other potentially harmful chemicals.
Dr. Perry will start at George Mason University on August 1, 2022, after finishing a Fulbright Fellowship in Albania, where she focused on capacity building and training future environmental public health leaders.
