Peer Mentors
Peer mentors who have some research training experience are part of the mentoring team for several reasons. Because they are developmentally close to the scholars, they can provide advice and guidance but different insights than the Science and Career mentors. Peer Mentors may share experiences with Scholars to assist in the navigation of the program and career development and overcoming institutional challenges. Peer Mentors also promote opportunities for collaboration and for building a scientific network of Latino researchers. Indeed, peer mentoring has been associated with a number of positive outcomes, such as enhanced confidence, self-awareness, interpersonal and teaching skills, and leadership factors also associated with emotional intelligence. When possible, graduate Scholars of SHARE program will serve as Peer Mentors for Scholars.
Past Peer Mentors included SHARE Scholar Alumni, GW MPH and PhD Students, GW MPH Graduates, current medical students
